Radiofrequency Ablation
What is Radiofrequency Ablation?
Available at our vein treatment center in Sugar Land, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive medical procedure that is performed at a doctor’s office. In most cases, patients return to their daily activities the same day.
How Does RFA Work?
Radiofrequency ablation at our Sugar Land vein treatment center involves inserting a catheter into the vein which emits radio waves and heat specific areas of the affected vein, causing it to close.
Instead of clotting the blood, the radiofrequency energy targets the collagen in the vein wall, causing it to shrink and prevent blood from circulating through that vein. The blood is then redirected through other surrounding healthy veins.
